Water borehole refurbishment

Who doesn’t love a before and after picture of a positive transformation? It’s probably what a lot of us are hoping to be able to post at the end of the month when we’ve completed dry Veganuary!
In this case however, the images are a before and after image of a water borehole on a small trading estate in the West Midlands.
Igne’s water well team from Presteigne was asked to survey the site last year and to make recommendations for the borehole’s improvement by the estate’s former owner, who was selling to a property group.
Igne advised there was at least a requirement to improve the head works and to ensure UV protection - as per local council obligations.
The advice was shared with the new owners who subsequently requested a second site visit to understand what would be required to ensure theirs was as safe and reliable a water system as possible.
Igne’s Contracts Manager Adrian Dalley revisited and explained everything that could be done to improve the borehole, to help the new owners with the council’s UV requirements, to overcome water ingress issues and to make sure the water supply was both lockable and easy to service.
This resulted in Igne being commissioned to complete the job.
What you can see is a specially designed glass reinforced plastic (GRP) tank which was manufactured for the above borehole finish. The entire installation was pre-insulated, wood boarding was integral in the GRP for fixing inside the cabinet which is securely lockable.
There is now easy access to service or remove the pump, there are no issues with water ingress, the UV requirements have been met and the well’s works are protected from the elements.
The majority of the equipment within the cabinet was installed off site, so the final onsite works were quick, slick and efficient.
Igne has trained the trading estate’s caretaker on basic maintenance tasks including how to inspect and change the filter, and now has an annual maintenance contract in place to ensure the borehole remains fully operational at optimum condition.
