IGNE IS A SPECIALIST DRILLING CONTRACTOR

Specialist drilling services include:

  • Large diameter and/or deep boreholes
  • Require control of artesian water using heavy muds
  • Require gas control measures
  • Direct circulation or reverse circulation drilling methods
  • Large diameter – up to 1000mm
  • Up to 1000m deep
  • Control of drilling fluids to keep sites clean or for environmentally sensitive areas
  • Wireline drilling
  • Angled boreholes

Direct circulation and reverse circulation drilling methods

Direct circulation drilling is the most common type of borehole drilling. In this method, drilling fluid is pumped down the drill string and out of the drill bit. The drilling fluid helps to cool and lubricate the drill bit, and it also carries the cuttings to the surface.

Reverse circulation drilling is less common than direct circulation drilling, but it is often used in difficult drilling conditions, such as when drilling through loose or unstable ground. In reverse circulation drilling, the drilling fluid is pumped down the outside of the drill string and up the inside of the drill string. This creates a reverse flow of drilling fluid, which carries the cuttings to the surface.

Large diameter boreholes – up to 1000mm

Igne can drill boreholes of up to 1000mm in diameter. This is necessary for some applications, such as drilling for water wells or geothermal wells. Large diameter boreholes can also be used to install large diameter casings, such as those used for micropiles or foundation piers.

Up to 1000m deep boreholes

Igne can drill boreholes of up to 1000m in depth. This is necessary for some applications, such as drilling for deep water wells or geothermal wells. Deep boreholes can also be used to install deep foundations or to collect geological data.

Control of drilling fluids to keep sites clean or for environmentally sensitive areas

Igne can carefully control the drilling fluids used in its drilling operations. This is important for keeping sites clean and for protecting the environment. For example, Igne can use biodegradable drilling fluids or closed-loop drilling systems to prevent drilling fluids from contaminating the environment.

We always choose the drilling muds (fluids) appropriate for any given geological challenges on site, as well as where there are specified site requirements such as environmental factors.

Wireline drilling boreholes

Wireline drilling is a method of drilling boreholes that uses a wireline core barrel to collect a continuous core of rock. Wireline drilling is often used to collect geological data or to drill boreholes for mineral exploration.

Angled boreholes

Igne can drill angled boreholes. This is necessary for some applications, such as drilling for directional water wells or geothermal wells. Angled boreholes can also be used to drill under obstacles or to reach difficult-to-reach locations.

Igne's specialist borehole drilling services are ideal for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Water wells
  • Geothermal wells
  • Micropiles
  • Foundation piers
  • Mineral exploration
  • Environmental investigations
  • Construction projects
